E-commerce Case Study
Demon was one of the UK’s first internet service providers. As part of an ongoing project with Yelofin networks, Type3 was asked to provide ecommerce functionality and fulfillment management for broadband related home network products.
The Brief
- To design an easy to use website
- Educate people on the components they need to set up a wireless network and recommend product
- To enable a user to select products and purchase them
- To enable admin staff to easily update the website, with little training
- To enable a customer to buy broadband through the site
- To automate as many processes as possible
- To provide a product recommendation system for selecting the right products
Our Solution
- To develop and integrate a fulfillment process into a distributors SAP system, via XML, creating a virtual warehouse. The warehouse then ships to the customer directly
- To create a fully functional e-commerce site, that enables products to be selected, added to a basket and then purchased via a credit card payment system
- To create a network wizard character and system for product recommendations that allowed 'novice' users to learn about the capabilities of a wireless home/office and to purchase the correct products
- To set up a real-time (messenger-like) product support system
- To develop a bright engaging brand, that promotes the lifestyle aspects of the products
- To create an integrated order tracking system, for monitoring the status of orders
- To create a catalogue incorporating product overviews, technical information, help guides and award acknowledgment
Results
- E-tailer doesn’t have to have a warehouse as this is provided by a third party
- E-tailer doesn’t have to pay for stock. The stock is purchased by the system from the distributor automatically
- E-tailer has access to large stock levels as the distributor serves 1000's of accounts and has vast warehouses
- E-tailer typically requires just one staff member to manage pricing and bundles
- Products and product content can be uploaded easily via the CMS system
- No physical human interaction at the E-tailer to place an order. E-tailer is only responsible for ensuring pricing is correct.
